Dr. C.G. Krishnadas Nair, Former Chairman, HAL, is a graduate in Metallurgy from IIT - Madras and Ph.D (Metal Fatigue) from Canada. Prior to his appointment as Chairman, HAL, in August 1997, he was the Managing Director of HAL since 1988. Dr. Nair Joined HAL in 1971 and served as General Manager of a number of Divisions before becoming its Managing Director. He is widely recognised in the field of aeronautics both in India and abroad. He was elected President of Aeronautical Society of India (1995-97), the country's most prestigious professional body in the field of aeronautics and Fellow of Royal Aeronautical Society, London. He was the President of Indian Institute of Metals (1997-99). He is Founder President of  Society of Indian Aerospace Technologies & Industries.
Dr. Nair has contributed significantly for technology development, indigenisation, diversification and growth of HAL and also for export promotion. Under his guidance, various high technology materials and aerospace equipments have been indigenously developed not only for HAL's aircraft projects but also for India's Space programmes. A high level of indigenous content approximately 70% has been reached in most of the HAL's products. He has been particularly responsible for initiating and implementing plans for diversification and setting up of new Projects/Divisions such as BAeHAL Software Limited for export of computer software, Industrial Gas Turbine Unit for power generation as part of HAL's Engine Division, Heavy aircraft Maintenance Facility for Civil Aircraft Maintenance at Bangalore as part of Aircraft Division and 100% export oriented units for manufacture and supply of Aerospace components and structures. Manufacture of Airbus Door and components and structures for M/s.Boeing were planned and implemented by him.

Dr. Nair has also contributed significantly in the field of social & economic emancipation of the physically handicapped. His pioneering effort in this field had won HAL the National Award for Best Employer of Physically Handicapped. He has made valuable contributions by providing support and guidance to various Schools established by HAL for special education to mentally retarded children. A keen sports lover, Dr.Nair has given necessary impetus to the sport activities.
