ARTICLE ON SIATI
Society of Indian Aerospace Technologies and Industries (SIATI) was founded in 1991 by Dr.C.G.Krishnadas Nair, the Managing Director, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Bangalore on receiving the National Aeronautical Prize (1990), for his outstanding work in Aeronautical Science and Technology. This prize was instituted by the Aeronautics Research & Development Board, Ministry of Defence and given by the Aeronautical Society of India. The said cash award received by him was set apart for the formation of SIATI, after discussion with a number of his colleagues in the Aeronautical Society of India as well as in the industries and research institutions. It was considered that SIATI will be complementary to the Aeronautical Society of India as it will bridge the gap between R&D and industry and focus on technology applications and creation of industrial infrastructure for making aerospace materials, components & Systems/equipment and, in general, develop Aerospace Technology. The SIATI is a unique association, as it is not borne out of the desire of the member organisations to form some sort of trade association to protect their interests, but was founded with a vision and with the support and patronage of major aerospace orgnaisations such as Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd., (HAL), Indian Satellite Research Organisation, (ISRO), Defence Research Development Organisation, (DRDO), Directorate General of Civil Aviation, (DGCA) Regional Centre for Military Airworthiness & Certification (CEMILAC) and Directorate General of Aircraft Quality Assurance (DGAQA) to encourage and motivate the private industry, especially small and medium scale entrepreneurs to participate in the indigenous development and manufacture of aerospace material, equipment and systems and to bring about synergy among the R&D and Industries within the country and facilitate co-operation with overseas aerospace organisations.

The Prime Objectives of the Society are:
- Promote aerospace technologies and industries in India, encourage potential entrepreneurs to set up medium/small scale industries for manufacture/maintenance of aerospace components, system and materials.
- Provide forum for interaction of industries and users, research & development institutions, universities etc., for the above.
- Conduct Seminars/Workshops, participate in National/International Airshows /Exhibitions / Seminars etc.
- Encourage education and research and, for this purpose, institute scholarships/fellowships, etc. in aerospace.
- Conduct visits within India and abroad, to aerospace industries, Airshows, Symposia/Seminars, etc., to provide for exchange of ideas, transfer of technology etc.
- To collaborate with similar societies, trusts, professional institutions and industries in the country and abroad for achieving its objectives.

The managing committee of SIATI consists of eminent persons drawn from various Indian Aerospace Organisations viz., Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd., Indian Space Research Organisation, Aeronautical Development Agency, Centre for Military Airworthiness and Certification, Directorate General of Civil Aviation and Industry.

The Society as on today has around 330 industry members of small, medium and large-scale industries. They are engaged in Indigenous development and manufacture of aircraft, equipment, Systems, accessories materials, consumables, components, software and software solutions. SIATI is playing a significant role in the indigenous development of aerospace materials, systems and equipment, components etc. SIATI is an important ‘Gateway’ to Indian Aerospace business and Global Co-operation for tie-up in R&D, Technology, Joint Ventures, Collaborations, Co-production and information exchange and is a professionally managed non-profit, non-commercial organisation.

A number of interactive workshops with Indian and Overseas industries are being conducted. One of the highlights was the Civil Aviation Summit Conference held in Bangalore from 26th to 28th November 2002 and another was a conference on Civil Aviation Safety and Security held recently at Delhi on the 15th and 16th October 2003.

PARTICIPATING IN THE ASIAN AEROSPACE 2004.
SIATI is leading a large delegation to Asian Aerospace exhibition at Singapore under India Pavilion from 24th–29th February 2004.
